These are the "Before" pictures from my next project. What a wonderful space! Watch for updates over the coming months as I transform this beautiful, light and airy condo into something new and exciting!

Just as each home is made of different rooms, each room is made of different design elements. These are the points of interest that define the room and, based on what you've told me, my vision for the room. Each one sets, and holds, the mood that fills the rooms.

The living room is the center of your public persona. Here is where your guests sit, converse and learn about you. You want comfort, intimacy or separation depending on the size of the group and relaxation. Depending on how you live, the size of the room and the layout of your home, the living room can be formal or casual, cozy or airy.

Dining rooms can be the place for a quiet meal together or a place for friends and family to gather for the good times. And the room needs to be versatile. Whether you serve a Sunday brunch, a dinner with the good crystal and black tie or simply linger over a late night glass of wine with good friends, the room needs to meld around you.

This is a current project I'm on with my friend Deborah. Deborah is a real estate agent and investor with an eye for houses that can become homes and a passion to bring cut-up or abused houses back to a home with all the comforts. Once the construction dust has been cleared away, you'll see an absolutely perfect 1918 Arts & Crafts Bungalow. It served many years as a rooming house. The replacement windows are coming out; period windows are going back in. Original brass fixtures, hidden by layers of paint over the years, are being stripped and polished. The kitchen is new; the second floor now has heating and cooling. Watch this space! The house is going to be magical. It goes on the market in April!

Bedrooms are our inner sanctums. Here we are our most private whether we're sleeping, curled up with a good book or cuddling with someone special. Light is important...at the right time and in the right way. We have to be able to pull the privacy of the moment around us at will.

Whether you are brushing your teeth, soaking in a hot tub of bubbles or dashing through the shower on your way to work, bathrooms need to fit your needs. And they need to fit the spaces your home has available.

Kitchens embody the idea of "hearth and home." Whether you have a galley space or a kitchen large enough for the entire crowd, you want everything to be in the right place.

Children's rooms are different than our own bedrooms. They need to take into account the age of the child and the ease of the parents. They need close quiet areas for sleeping and open areas for playing.
